2025 (9) - Pages 119-128We illustrate the reproductive system of the Helicella bolenensis (Locard, 1882) following the discovery of the species in the Hautes-Alpes department. The results of this anatomical study make it easy to separate this Helicella from the Balkan Helicella Xeropicta derbentina (Krynicki, 1836), Xerosecta cespitum (Draparnaud, 1801) and Cernuella virgata (da Costa, 1778). Helicella itala (Linnaeus, 1758) has a similar anatomy but can be separated from the Helicella bolenensis by studying the shape of the penis. The study of the occurrence data of the Helicella bolenensis in Provence shows a historical trajectory split into two periods. The first from 1879 to 1904 located in the departments of Drôme and Vaucluse, the second from 1987 to 2023 whose center of gravity is centered around the department of Bouches-du-Rhône. The habitat currently occupied by this species as well as historical data testify to the messicolous character of this taxon, particularly conducive to passive dispersion. The evolution of the populations of this species in relation to agricultural practices and landscapes is discussed, taking into account a risk of confusion with the Balkan Helicella, an invasive and invasive species.
