The series Faune de Madagascar series was founded in 1956 by Renaud Paulian, when he was assistant director of the Institut de Recherche scientifique de Madagascar. Since 2003, the series is published and distributed by three research institutions: the Centre de Coopération internationale en Recherche agronomique pour le Développement (CIRAD), the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) and the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle (MNHN). It publishes monographs and identification guides in French or English on the fauna – vertebrates and invertebrates – of Madagascar.
