Glimpses of a Plio-Pleistocene African ecosystem: the Lower Omo Valley, Ethiopia

Edited by Jean-Renaud BOISSERIE, Aurélien MOUNIER, Blade Engda REDAE & Mathieu SCHUSTER

The Lower Omo Valley (south-western Ethiopia) is a major reference for the study of the Plio-Pleistocene in Africa, in terms of biochronology, of the relations between paleoclimate and mammalian (hominids included) evolutions, and of ancient prehistory. Fieldwork performed in the 1960s-1970s provided results that were abondantly exploited in relation with these topics. The researches conducted by the Omo Group Research Expedition from 2006 onward constitute a renewed approach, aiming at a more integrated knowledge of the Lower Omo ecosystem, and notably of biotic interactions during the Plio-Pleistocene. The papers collected here are important landmarks of this approach.
